CAT COMMITTEE MEETING
January 17, 2008
A meeting of the Community Action Team took place at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, January 17, 2008. In attendance were Sharon Ludwig, Barbara Swanson, Krisan LeHew, Louise Glenn, Patsy Cotter, Rich LeHew, Curt Kelling and Tracy Ferrell.
Discussion Items:
Kiosk – Rich LeHew will look into options for adding Copper (enhancements) to the Kiosk.
Downtown Clock Tower – Curt Kelling reported that the sale of the City’s property on Main Avenue did not go through. The City is looking at other options for that property. One option would be to divide the property in order to create a Downtown Square with parking. There was substantial discussion in regards to the building that stands on the property. The building has some historical value, but is unlikely that it can be rehabbed.
Gateway Signage on Flowery Trail – Curt is working with the city’s engineer as well as the landscape architect on this project. Tracy Ferrell will do some research on signage with local providers. It was noted there is no signage on the corner of Main Avenue and Park Street for travelers coming off of the Flowery Trail (distance & directions to Colville and Spokane). Curt will contact WSDOT in regards to this.
There was discussion on type and color of rocks that could be used in the landscaping. There was a brief discussion on the Colville/KF proposed bike path.
Parking –Parking around the City Library was discussed. That situation is currently being worked on. Curt is also working with the hospital on a parking solution on the East end of the Municipal Building lot. An inventory will be done on the available parking in the city. It was noted that the one issue is with employees of city businesses taking up all the available parking. Ways to encourage them to utilize other parking was discussed.
Other Business:
Sharon asked about the holiday swag removal. George Eberth has been asked to start removal.
Additional holiday decorations were discussed. Curt will gather information about permanent flags for downtown. Sharon was impressed with snowflakes that she had seen, and thought they would look nice in our downtown corridor.
There was discussion on providing play equipment for the park on Victoria (Triangle Park). Curt suggested contacting 49 Degrees North for assistance.
Krisan asked about the 4x4 motor vehicle trails that were discussed at a recent City Council meeting. Where will these trails be, and is there a map available? Curt recommended checking the Stevens County Website. He is waiting for direction from the Mayor on how the City is going to approach this issue.
On March 1, 2008 the Theater Promotion group will be holding an event to discuss the proposed theater in the Armory Building. Barbara Swanson asked about switching buildings with the museum. Curt explained that this project is still in the “beginning” planning phase so the outcome of new locations for the museum, possible walk paths and other recreation facilities are still to be determined.
Horizons will be sponsoring a Grant Writing Training on April 18th and 19th in Colville.
The next CAT meeting will be held on Thursday, February 21, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. in the Conference Room at City Hall.
Respectfully Submitted,
