The City of Chewelah is a Volunteer Fire Department. All fire fighters have completed the basic fire fighting course and most have advanced training. The Chewelah Fire Department and Fire Departments from the surrounding areas have a mutual support agreement. The combined force can handle all sizes of fires. The Chewelah Fire Department has an exceptional response time.

Shown here are some photos taken at a recent training exercise involving several agencies in cooperation with the Chewelah Fire Department.  These exercises are scheduled to enable new techniques to be practiced in the event of any actual emergency.  While no firefighter wants to put these skills to use in an actual event, constant training insures they are prepared for just about any emergency.  (click on photo for enlarged view)
