City Administrator’s Report

May 2006

City Administration is continuing its long-term water-usage study. We identified high use customers and will discuss conservation measures with them.  We strongly encourage lawn and landscape irrigation during the night or early morning hours rather than the daytime.  Also, we hope everyone plants native grasses and perennials which do not require much water.

The Planning Commission has three public hearings scheduled for their regular meeting June 15.   First, a Site Plan Review for applicant Sean Taboloff proposing to construct a single family residence on a lot at the SW corner of King and Bernard.  This plan is significant because Paye Creek intersects the lot diagonally.  Second, a Site Plan Review for co-applicants Matthew and Diane Cobb proposing an addition to an existing residence at 407 N. Stevens.  Third, a Public Hearing for a recommendation to the City Council for the long awaited Shoreline Master Program.  This program has been underway many years with the final steps partially funded by the Washington State DOE.  This plan is very significant to the citizens of Chewelah because we have three waterways intersecting our City and this plan will add policies for land use planning around those waterways.

The City commenced work on the Airport Layout Plan.  David Ketchum, Airside Associates, has been selected to perform this task.  We expect to have a completed plan early this fall.  The public will be included in the process as well.

The Information Kiosk project spearheaded by Jenkins High Graduates David Ludwig and Cameron Stroyan is under construction.  The young men expect to have it in place by the end of the summer.

The pool is scheduled to open next week.  Pool Manager Alissa Akers is busy training lifeguards preparing for the swimming lessons.  Additionally, Alissa is now a newly certified Lifeguard Instructor Trainer.
